CCGS Meetings and Educational Events

The Cleveland County Genealogical Society is presenting three separate classes at the Norman Wellness Center this Spring 2024. Before each class, a CCGS Society meeting for members will be hosted in the presentation room. This meeting will run from 5 pm-6 pm, with a portion at the end dedicated to social networking before the class begins.  
 
April 9th, 6 pm -7:30 pm: Finding Pieces of the Past: An Introduction to Genealogy.
Covers how to get started, pedigree charts, family group sheets, how to build a family tree, sources, errors to avoid, and online resources.
 
May 14th, 6 pm -7:30 pm: Hidden Treasures in the US Federal Census. 
Covers 1790 – 1950 census records, how to locate them, and the important and surprising information they contain.
 
June 11th, from 6 pm -7:30 pm: Vital Records and Other Important Family Documents.
Covers Birth, Death, Baptism, Marriage, and Divorce records and how to locate them, as well as Cleveland County records and where to look.
 
Norman’s new Adult Wellness & Education Center is located at 602 N. Findley Ave., behind Norman Regional Hospital. It has a large and spacious presentation room. 
 
Anyone who wishes to attend the classes is welcome. The classes are free for CCGS members ( https://ccgsok.com/ ) and members of the Adult Wellness Center (https://www.normanok.gov/residents-visitors/parks-recreation/adult-wellness-education-center ). Non-members can pay $10 for a day-pass to attend a class. This is payable to the Adult Wellness Center day of, at time of arrival.

CCGS Hours of operation:

The Cleveland County Genealogical Society office is OPEN to the public Thursdays from 1-4:30 p.m.,  or by appointment. If you need assistance or would like to make an appointment to view information in our office, please call (405) 701-2100 and leave a message or email us at [email protected].  Please leave plenty of time (a week or more) before your desired visit time, as we check the phone messages and email routinely twice a week. Occasionally inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances cause us to close the office, so please call ahead to be sure we’re open the day you plan to visit if you are coming from out of town.

Directions to CCGS Office:

We are located in G Wing of the Community Services Building, at the northeast corner of East Main and 12th Avenue Northeast, Norman OK.

In Norman, from the intersection of East 12th and Main, go west on Main and turn into the first street on your right. Continue to the right and follow the road around the corner to the north.  Park in the first parking lot on the west (Parking Lot #1).  South of the parking lot, follow the red brick wall to the Envision Success garden, then enter the garden and follow the sidewalk to our outside door, which is marked with our name, Cleveland County Genealogical Society.
